John Heywood gave us “Rome wasn’t build in a day” in English. This adage is commonly used to attest that patience and time is needed to build great things.

Duality of “Rome wasn’t built in a day”

For industrial folks, this phrase is important to keep them from being burnt out while they work towards their life goals.

On the other hand, this phrase reminds lackadaisical folks to put in effort consistently in order to achieve their desired outcome.

Examples of using “Rome wasn’t built in a day” as a reminder to progress in an ideal way

Having a fit body

Say our “Rome” is to have a fit body. In order to have a fit body, we have to exercise in a consistent manner with respect to our dietary habits.

When we stretch our bodies too much, we may get injured and thus have to deviate away from building our “Rome”.

On the other hand, if we do not take any actions at all, we will never be able to get a fit body.

Achieving financial independence

Financial independence is a state of life where I do not need to work for the sake of working in order to survive in an environment that is built around financial systems. Indeed, financial independence can be considered as a common “Rome” for normal folks.

When you are a normal folk, financial independence cannot be achieved in a short time without extreme measures.

In order to prevent yourself from getting burnt out, you need to be patient in accumulating your wealth from your main income and/or side incomes.

However, if you do not put in enough effort to get surplus from your sources of income, it is almost impossible to reach financial independence. Not if you marry a rich spouse or inherit a tidy sum of money from a rich relative.

However, how often do we get so lucky?

So, use “Rome wasn’t built in a day” as a reminder to be diligent in a realistic way

It doesn’t matter if you do not have a “Rome” to build yet.

However, if you have identified a worthy goal, it is important not to break yourself in the process of achieving your goal.

On the other hand, if you do not take any action, do not expect to see any outcome. Doing so will only cause frustrations to yourself or even to people around you.
